.Com turns 150

As in 150 million.

According to Verisign, there are now more than 150 million registrations of .com (of which I account for about a dozen):

.Com remains the most popular top-level domain.

However, the total number of country codes now exceeds .com, at 160 million.

I have long argued that country codes are just as important as .com, and, in many countries, are more important. Here’s a visual of all 250+ ccTLDs:

Country Codes of the World

The continued growth of .com registrations tells me that the Internet, while maturing, continues expanding, despite the efforts of Facebook to minimize it. This is a very good thing.
